Jacob Ellsbary was born on a Tuesday. You don’t need to remember that. There will be no test, and there will be no time later in life that knowing that information will ever serve a purpose, but it does mark the beginning of Jake’s life, and what better place to start than the beginning? Jake’s parents, Valerie and Brendan aren’t remarkable people. Brendan dropped out of college after two years of course work to follow in his father’s footsteps of being handed a cushy job at his family’s accounting firm. His mother is a pediatric nurse. His parents aren’t remarkable. Nothing about his family ever was.
They lived comfortably enough, always able to afford the finer things in life, but never took any time to enjoy a single one of them. While on vacation Brendan would work from his phone, Valerie would sample drinks with umbrellas in them until she would vent her frustrations with the entire family and pass out, to wake up the next day remembering not a single word she yelled to her husband and son. It was basically like every other day but in a different location. Jake began to hate family trips.
In school Jake was typically a popular student. Not receiving much attention at home unless it was in the form of his mother’s yelling, Jake typically acted out in school to get the attention he craved, getting a laugh from his classmates while pissing off the teacher was a double bonus. He spent many recesses inside while the other kids played, and as the years progressed he spent many days after school in detention, but it never bothered him. If he was staying after school he didn’t have to be home and that was something he definitely enjoyed.
Freshman year of high school saw Jake’s first relationship develop and then crash and burn as soon as It had started. You see, Jake still liked getting attention and when another girl started giving it to him, he found it hard to turn it down, and as such he ended up cheating on his first real girlfriend, many times, though he only confessed to one, she stayed with him. It killed him knowing that there was more he wasn’t telling her but it wasn’t until the summer vacation that he confessed again and she left for good.
It was that same summer when Jake took up a new hobby to pay for a few things he would like, but would not like to ask his parents for. He had a friend who kept him well supplied with a certain “herbal supplement” that Jake grew to enjoy. Soon he was the middle man between his friend and other friends who were also interested in the same “herbal supplement” and before long there was quite a profit being made from this hobby, a hobby he continues to this day, though he has branched out beyond just the herbal side of things, though he has only tried a few of the non herbal offerings.
Since then Jake has gotten his head a little straighter no longer craving the same attention as he’s become more confident with himself. However, his grades have been low and while others were learning the principles of algebra, Jake had been trying to get everyone to notice him, as such he’s well behind most people in certain key subjects. College is a goal of his as he wants desperately to be more than his parents are, but knows it will be an uphill climb. He has a tutor in nearly every subject, and while he’s a little self conscious about being so behind, he knows he’ll have to swallow his pride and accept the help offered to him.
- While Jake had been known through his school years as being the kid who would say or do outrageous things just to get attention, he has mellowed out and focuses his energy having a good time partying or on the athletic field. - Jake’s personality can be described as high energy and sometimes he jokes about inappropriate things, however, deep down he’s a nice guy with a big heart who truly cares about his friends. - To make money Jake sells drugs he gets from a friend to students at school for a profit, though he rarely uses anything besides smoking an occasional blunt. - When Jake has a girlfriend he tends to over do things. He buys expensive gifts, calls her a lot and plans weekend trips for just the two of them, it can be overbearing and he’s tried to keep in to a minimum as it has cost him relationships in the past. - While some would take a look at his life and think he was completely spoiled it’s quite untrue. Jake is thankful for everything in his life and tries his best to be kind to everyone no matter their background. - The only people Jake really doesn’t get along with are his parents. His mother is a borderline alcoholic nurse who has always taken care of everyone except her husband and son. His father is an accountant who is boring through and through and gives lectures about responsibility and saving money as much as he says “hello.” - Jake can be described as a daredevil, loving any thrill seeking activity there is.
